Traditionally, yoga was only taught one-on-one.
There was no such thing as a yoga class.
However, today, especially in the west, classes are the primary way
people learn yoga. In the traditional setting the teacher would work with
only one person at a time, perhaps giving only one yoga pose which that
person might work on for many months or even years before being taught
the next pose. The yoga that was taught to one student might be very
different that what was conveyed to another, each receiving the
instruction which was appropriate for their own needs.
While yoga classes are financially advantageous to both students and
instructors, and also allow for greater numbers of people to receive yoga
instruction, there is no comparison to individual instruction.
I am currently teaching private classes to individuals and small groups.
If you are interested in learning more about the benefits of private
instruction, please give me a call. A new series of classes is forming on
Saturday Mornings, as follows:
Gentle Movement and Backcare class
This class is ideal for those experiencing back and hip pain, arthritis, limited flexibility and
range-of-motion. The focus of this class is gentle movement to free up stiff achy joints, relieve
pain and improve range-of-motion. The class is one hour, and includes an introduction to
meditation. This class is suitable for thos who are not comfortable getting down onto a mat on
the floor. Class time is 12:15 - 1:15 PM. Classes are ongoing, every Saturday.
Beginner Yoga
The beginner yoga class is for anyone who is new to yoga or who has very little yoga
experience and wants to learn the basic yoga poses. This class will help you strengthen and
lengthen muscles, freeing up muscle tension while improving flexibility. The class is one hour
and 15 minutes, and includes an introduction to meditation. Class time is 10:45 AM - 12:
00PM. Classes are ongoing, every Saturday.
Yoga Workout
A more challenging class for experienced yoga students who wish to explore poses for fully,
strengthen through more advanced poses and longer holding, and learn new approaches to
their practice. Yoga Workout is one hour and 15 minutes and includes a meditation. Class
time is 9:15 - 10:30 AM. Classes are ongoing, every Saturday.
Class Size
All classes are kept very small to ensure that you get individual attention.
Cost
You may "pay as you go" at $20 per class.
Or you may purchase a 10-class pass for $170 and save 15 percent.
The cost is slightly higher than some other locations, however it offers the advantage of
guaranteed small classes with an experienced instructor who will pay attention to your needs.
Many yoga centers keep the cost down by having large classes - sometimes 30 students or
more. If you would prefer a small group experience, I invite you to join in on Saturday morning.
