The science of aromatherapy and essential oils is thousands of years
old.  Although it was amost lost through the ages, interest and  research
into the therapeutic value has risen dramatically during the last 50 years.
The renewed scientific inquiry has lead to new understanding of the
elements the ancients used for the healing, protecting and beautifying.

Mankind’s first medicine
Thousands of years before modern pharmaceuticals, Herbal medicine
and Essential oils were used by kings, priests, emperors, pharaohs, and
aristocracy in many cultures to promote
health, youthfulness, beauty and
protection from disease and plagues.

Modern science continues to validate the many powerful uses of
essential oils, including their immune-stimulating properties.  Research
continues investigating the antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, and
antiseptic properties in essential oils.

Interesting Information about Essential Oils

In the 12th century, the Benedictine nun Hildegarg of Bingen used herbs
and oils in healing which she described extensively in her book, Physica,
which detailed over 200 chapters on plants and their uses for healing.
More recently, in the early 1900’s interest has been resurrected,
particularly in the antibacterial and wound-healing properties of many
oils.  During World War I, the use of aromatic essences in civilian and
military hospitals became widespread.

Essential oils are powerful therapeutic compounds.

•   In research at the University of Vienna, essential oils were shown to
stimulate blood flow which increases oxygen and nutrient delivery.

•   Some of the most powerful antioxidants (as determined by the ORAC
test developed at Tufts University) are contained in essential oils.

•   Essential oils are antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-infectious, anti-
microbial, anti-parasitic, antiviral and antiseptic.  Some essential oils
have been shown to destroy all tested bacteria and viruses.

•   Essential oils are aromatic and when diffused, may provide air
purification by increasing ozone and negative ions in the area;
eliminating odors from cooking, bacteria, mold, animals and other
sources; filling the air with a fresh, aromatic scent.

•   Essential oils promote emotional, physical and spiritual well-being.
